Oita is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and nonindustrial in nature.

  • These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
  • Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
  • The worldlets require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Outrun Subsector of Crucis Margin Sector.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Oita is a Freeport, open to starfaring vessels of any allegiance. Many of the deals conducted in the bars and offices of Oita are somewhat dubious; some are downright illegal.

Security is provided by various private outfits (which are distinctly partisan) and by the Oita Security Force (which is in theory impartial but in practice changes allegiance depending upon who has influenced or bribed its leaders).

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Oita has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population[edit]

The permanent population of Oita is about 50,000 (down from 300,000 in 990), with perhaps half as many more transients at any given time. The population are mainly concentrated on one large asteroid, with smaller communities situated on outlying planetoids.

World Government (G)[edit]

Oita is governed by a Feudal Technocracy. Society divides itself based on the technical requirements of the society. Each of these functions are granted as a fief to an individual or group. Leadership of these fiefs determines the head of the government.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Oita has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Oita possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World Economy[edit]

The system has a little industry, but for the most part exists as a service economy for visiting ships' crews. The facilities can cater to most tastes and to most species.
