Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Number One is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Number One has a pressure of 2.5 or greater atmospheres. A Dense & High Pressure Atmosphere typically requires no survival gear under many conditions. Pressure at or below sea level is too great to support life but the atmosphere may be breathable at higher altitudes. TL–5 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.

  • The atmosphere of Number One is a toxic goop of insidious gases, with a high concentration of chlorine and cyanide compounds.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Number One has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Settled as an undersea mining colony and prison planet by the Sindalians, Number One should not have survived the fall of the empire. That it not only survived but flourished is testament both to the stubborn nature of Humaniti, and to the fact that it's hard to leave your home hellhole without jump technology.

Number One is controlled by various religious groups currently waging a propaganda war against each other for control of the planet. The population lives in dome-settlements on the sea floor, and never emerge from beneath the waves. To live on Number One is to exist in a realm of tunnels, corridors, pumping stations and submarines.

This world is part of the Florian Route.

World Starport[edit]

Number One has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

The planet's downport is located on a tall mountain, above the worst of the atmospheric poisons.

World Population (P)[edit]

Number One has a population of 60,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).

Urbanization[edit]

  • Dragonsdome is the oldest settlement on Number One; it grew up around the prison. Today, it is a trading post and mining colony with a population of half a million, ruled by a Warden. Dragonsdome controls the planet's starport, which stands atop a mountain that rises steeply out of the ocean five kilometers north of the dome. A submersible funicular runs down the mountainside into Dragonsdome.
  • Dragon's Deep is an underwater chasm five hundred kilometers north-west of Dragonsdome. Back when this place was a working prison, cruel wardens used Dragon's Deep as the ultimate in solitary confinement. Prisoners would be placed into pressure-resistant bathyspheres and plunged into the darkest depths of the ocean, to hang from thin cables until they had atoned for their misdeeds -- or until the Warden ordered they be killed.

World Government (G)[edit]

Number One has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Number One has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Number One possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
