Saarinen is a world suited to becoming an agricultural world, but with a population between 10,000 and 100,000 sophonts it lacks the capability to produce or process sufficient resources to export its projected agricultural produce. This world has the Imperial Research Station Epsilon for the Sector. It is a member of Regency of Deneb in the Sabine Subsector of Deneb Sector.

Astrography & Planetology[edit]

It is located within the Aramis Trace.

Saarinen has two stars in the star system.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

In 1132 the new Regency government revealed that the Research Station was a clandestine biological warfare laboratory, and demilitarized the facility. Its mission was converted to commercial and civilian research goals, the civilian workforce was increased, and Epsilon became closely affiliated with universities on Rhylanor (Spinward Marches 2716) and Magash (Deneb 0316). A number of private biotech companies from the "Rainbow Vale" on Magash were allowed to set up shop around the station, in many cases these were nearly as large as Epsilon itself. The old research company was supplanted by a representative council, though one biased towards the corps and smaller offworld government agencies now present on the planet. Critics charge that by privatizing the station, its old practices of abuse and secrecy have metastasized, and unscrupulous biotech companies now play god in the fields of Saarinen without stringent government oversight. Security for the world is still very tight, and reports have surfaced of off-world critics being subject to intimidation by local agents. [2]
