Kifnell is a poor moderate population world with over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts in population size.
- It lacks the population and means to expand its economy at this point in time.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Hkao Subsector of Afawahisa Sector.
- This is a cold world with an overall climate that is at the lower temperature range of human-congruous sophont endurance.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This world is located within the Great Rift, far from any other star system.
Stellar Data[edit]
System Data[edit]
The worlds of the system have been surveyed. They consist of:
- The mainworld.
- x7 secondary rocky worlds.
- x2 planetoid belt.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Kifnell orbits towards the outer edge of its star's habitable zone.
- It receives relatively low levels of stellar energy.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Kifnell is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Kifnell has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
- It experiences low temperatures.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Kifnell has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.
- The world's small seas are crusted with pack ice.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
No centrally held map of the world exists within AAB Library Data records.
- Locally, detailed maps may be available.
(Blank map, predominantly dry world.)
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Primitive native life occupying a wide range of ecological niches. Its metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
- Native lifeforms are cryophilic - they thrive in low temperatures.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
This isolated world has a Human population whose origin is unknown but who have lived here a long time. Having developed in almost-total isolation, the inhabitants were nonetheless not surprised to finally encounter offworlders; folk tales about colonisation tied in with a fossil record that contains no trace of Human life. The first visits by starships caused nervousness but no great shock.
Visitors to the system remain rare, given the great expense of crossing the Great Rift to reach Kifnell. Those who do arrive are bombarded with requests for information on the outside universe and offers to buy parts of their vessel. The ambitions of Kifnell's natives to expand beyond the system remain frustrated.
Most of Kifnell's larger nations, and alliances of smaller ones, have some form of primitive but abundant spacefaring capability.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Kifnell has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Kifnell has a population of 500,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
- The population entirely consists of Humans of unknown origin, possibly transplanted here by the Ancients.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Kifnell possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government (G)[edit]
Kifnell has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
- Kifnell is balkanised into several large nations and many smaller ones, a situation complicated by numerous colonies throughout the system, some of which are independent and have essentially become nations in their own right.
- Conflict has been common throughout the history of Human habitation on Kifnell, sometimes spurring on the development of new technologies and sometimes causing severe setbacks.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Kifnell has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Personal concealable firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
