History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
This isolated world has a Human population whose origin is unknown but who have lived here a long time. Having developed in almost-total isolation, the inhabitants were nonetheless not surprised to finally encounter offworlders; folk tales about colonisation tied in with a fossil record that contains no trace of Human life. The first visits by starships caused nervousness but no great shock.
Visitors to the system remain rare, given the great expense of crossing the Great Rift to reach Kifnell. Those who do arrive are bombarded with requests for information on the outside universe and offers to buy parts of their vessel. The ambitions of Kifnell's natives to expand beyond the system remain frustrated.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Kifnell has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
500,000,000
World Demographics[edit]
World Government (G)[edit]
This world has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
- Kifnell is balkanised into several large nations and many smaller ones, a situation complicated by numerous colonies throughout the system, some of which are independent and have essentially become nations in their own right.
- Conflict has been common throughout the history of Human habitation on Kifnell, sometimes spurring on the development of new technologies and sometimes causing severe setbacks.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
This world possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
Most of Kifnell's larger nations, and alliances of smaller ones, have some form of primitive but abundant spacefaring capability.
