The Kaanen of Mamshuli (Amdukan 0137) are an extinct Minor Non-Human Race with a non-humanoid appearance. They were technologically developing sophonts.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The race named Kaanen by the Vilani were a subterranean species. Between their widely separated villages they dug long tunnels, eventually turning the entire southern continent of their world into a giant honeycomb.

The primary sense of the Kaanen appears to have been smell.

Kaanen possessed strong, stocky legs and heavy primary arms evolved for tunneling. Secondary, manipulative arms developed from what had originally been grooming quills on their chest.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The Kaanen died out before Humans arrived on the scene; their ruins were investigated by Vilani explorers.

Sculptures and other Kaanen artworks can sell for large amounts of money. Popular legend states that one tunnel passage discovered in 412 was home to at least one living Kaanen -- the very last, so the story goes -- and the art found in this passage is most popular of all. There is no evidence that the story is true, but one two-metre tall sculpture from this passage sold for MCr 12.44.
