Iridina is a poor, nonindustrial world.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- This world has few prospects for economic development.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Demon's Eye Subsector of Far Home Sector.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- The supergiant primary of the Demon's Eye system and the huge Demon's Eye Nebula that surrounds it, lying a few parsecs to trailing, are clearly visible in the sky.
- This world lies on the Kuyt Chain Star Lane.
Binary Solar System
System Data[edit]
Jem-Iridina System[edit]
The primary is Jem, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0202 Sols, a mass of 0.3942 Sols, and a diameter of 604,000 km. (I-I) Iridina, designated the mainworld, (I-II) a very thin atmosphere iceworld, (II) a small gas giant, (III) a ringed small ice giant, and (IV) a vacuum iceworld form the inner part of the outer system. Orbital positions (V) through (VIII) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. (IX) a dense icy planetoid belt forms the outer part of the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
- The star experiences periodic flare activity.
Garnet Subsystem[edit]
The companion is Garnet, a dim red subdwarf star that orbits Jem at a mean distance of 3.04 AU (orbital position (VI), 454.8 million km) and has an orbital period of 8 years 11 days. It has a luminosity of 0.00054 Sols, a mass of 0.07 Sols, and a diameter of 91,500 km. (I-I) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (I-II) a small gas giant, and (II) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Only the gas giant retains satellites.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(I-I) Iridina[edit]
(I-I) Iridina is designated the mainworld. It orbits Jem at a mean distance of 0.12 AU (17.9 million km), within the outer system. It has an orbital period of 24 days 4 hours: it is tidally locked to Jem. The axial tilt is 5 degrees. Iridina has a diameter of 4,710 km, a density of 3.43 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.23 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Jem cause regular geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.31 bar and a composition of 80% nitrogen (N2), 19% abiotic oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 14% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water and sheets of water-ice. Mean surface temperature: -3°C. The climate is rated as Cold and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is sluggish and minor weather systems driven by the star drift across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
Total surface area: 70 million km², Land surface area: 60 million km², Water surface area: 10 million km².
- The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.
- Iridina is a Twilight Zone World.
- The world experiences libration, which causes the star to move in the sky and periodically rise and fall above the horizon in the twilight region.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Jem-Iridina System[edit]
No world in the system is known to have native life.
Garnet Subsystem[edit]
No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

World starport[edit]
Iridina has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level[edit]
Iridina possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World government[edit]
Iridina is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government is another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. The bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucracy or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence like the military.
