Imperial Family
The Imperial Family at any point in time is the House and Dynasty of the standing Emperor.
- Please see Emperors of the Third Imperium.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The formal custom is that the Emperor, Empress, and their issue officially compromise the immediate Imperial Family. By extension the Noble House and extended relatives of the standing Emperor are also accorded certain privileges. The privileges of the second cousins of a standing Emperor have been successfully challenged in the past.
Non-human Emperors?[edit]
There has not been a non-human Emperor to date † although many conjecture that one day there will be one. Imperial legal scholars have adopted the convention that if a sophont Emperor of a species with genders other than male and female assumes the Iridium Throne, the default title will be Emperor.
- † It is unclear whether or not Emperor Usuti was Human. Historical records assume that he was, but Usuti never personally appeared before the Moot and the records in the Archives are incomplete or equivocal. The clearest evidence is the name: Usuti is a common Plexxan forename, although its use by a Human is not inconceivable. [1]
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
In early 1116 at the time of the last update to this AAB database, the standing Emperor is Strephon Aella Alkhalikoi. The Imperial Family consists of House Alkhalikoi and the Alkhalikoi Dynasty.
Alkhalikoi Dynasty[edit]
House Alkhalikoi is the current dynasty holding the prime title "Emperor" of the Third Imperium, having been founded by Empress Arbellatra.
Lentuli Dynasty[edit]
The Lentuli Dynasty was a ruling dynasty that mostly governed the Third Imperium during the foundational years. It ruled between the reigns of the first two Emperors (Cleon I and Cleon II) and the time of the Imperial Republic. It included Artemsus, Martin I, Martin II, Porfiria, Anguistus, Martin III, Martin V and Nicholle.
Zhunastu Dynasty[edit]
When the first Emperor, Cleon I, of the Third Imperium ascended the Iridium Throne, a precedent was set that the Imperial Family would possess a number of rights, most held by custom and tradition rather than by code of law. Many of the hereditary (monarchical) features of Imperial rulership of the Third Imperium are not codified, part of a careful compromise with the Moot and greater standing body of Imperial Nobility. This compromise and system developed over a millennium of rulers as the Third Imperium grew and developed.
The Zhunastu Dynasty included Cleon I, Cleon II and later Cleon III (aka "Cleon the Mad" - the great-great-great-grandson of Cleon II). Cleon IV was the first of the nondynastic emperors and was a distant relation within the Zhunastu Dynasty, upon which he based his claims to legitimacy.
