Eliat is a nonindustrial, oceanic water world.
- It is covered with very deep oceans, of waterous (H2O) with less than 1% of its land above sea level.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 1% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Velous Subsector of Far Home Sector.
Description / Astrography & Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- This world lies on the Kuyt Chain Star Lane.
Binary Solar System
System Data[edit]
Hadam-Eliat System[edit]
The primary is Hadam, a white subgiant star. It has a luminosity of 12 Sols, a mass of 2 Sols, and a diameter of 3.618 million km. The inner system consists of (II) a vacuum inner world, (III) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (IV) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, and (V) Eliat, designated the mainworld – orbital position (I) is empty. (VI) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world orbits within the habitable zone. (VII) a very thin atmosphere hospitable world, (VIII-I) a sparse stony planetoid belt, and (VIII-II) a ringed large gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Ichenar System[edit]
The companion is a red subdwarf star lying approximately 640 AU from Hadam. It has a luminosity of 0.0074 Sols, a mass of 0.134 Sols, and a diameter of 212,000 km. (I) a trace atmosphere iceworld forms the outer system. It does not retain a satellite.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(V) Eliat[edit]
(V) Eliat is designated the mainworld. It orbits Hadam at a mean distance of 1.76 AU (263.3 million km), within the H– region of the inner system. It has an orbital period of 1 year 238 days and a rotation period of 44 hours. The axial tilt is 31 degrees. Eliat has a diameter of 16,783 km, a density of 6.34 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.51 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of its large moon cause constant geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.48 bar and a composition of 78% nitrogen (N2), 21% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the high percentage of atmospheric carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and hydrogen sulfide of volcanic origin. Eliat is a water world: approximately 97.8% of the surface is covered in an ocean of liquid water. Average tidal ranges exceed 0.7m. Mean surface temperature: 17°C. The climate is rated as Temperate-Prime and experiences major seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is active and strong weather systems driven by the star and the ocean sweep across the globe.
Satellite[edit]
Eliat retains a single natural satellite, an exotic atmosphere hospitable world named Karsey:
- (Va) Karsey (UWP Y6A0000-0, orbiting at 25 Diameters/420,000 km)
Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]
Total surface area: 885 million km², Water surface area: 866 million km², Land surface area: 19 million km².
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Hadam-Eliat System[edit]
Eliat, the mainworld, has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (VII) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
No other world in the system is known to have native life.
Ichenar System[edit]
No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.
History & Background / Dossier[edit]
The stormy oceans of Eliat (0919 Far Home) support an extensive marine ecosystem. The major export is wasserwood, harvested from subpelagic forests and valued for its durability.
World Starport[edit]
Eliat has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Technology Level[edit]
Eliat possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone, radio, and television.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fission power generation, advanced water and wind generation of electricity.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, early ATV's, and dedicated AFV's.
- Water: Amphibious vehicles, improved submersibles, and early SCUBA gear.
- Air: Early jet aircraft and rotorcraft VTOL's.
- Space: Early unmanned rocket delivery systems and early manned orbital rockets.
World Government[edit]
Eliat is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be monarchy, with titles passed to family members. Or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Or the organization may be more typical organization with positions of power inherited.
