Corfinium Defence Force

The Corfinium Defence Force was a Corps sized unit of the Third Imperium and was part of the Imperial Army's Colonial Forces.

Description (Specifications)

The Corfinium Defence Force consisted of just two battalions of Colonial troops of the planet Corfinium, but was supported by the Regular Troops of the Imperial Army because of the major army training facility on that World. After 1129 these included:

• 688th Lift Infantry Division: TL–15
• 4108th Assault Infantry Regiment: TL–14

History & Background (Dossier)

Imperium

The defence force was a minor and parochial force equipped to TL–12 using equipment imported from the Khouth Cluster. It's role was secondary to that of the Imperial Army training base.

Domain of Deneb

The fall of the Corridor Sector in 1118 placed Corfinium in the front line with the Dzarrgh Federate. The Corfinium Defence Force played an anti-raiding role but worked heavily with those Imperial Army units brought on-planet for training - often playing the Vargr Corsair role in the training cycles. In 1129 the defences at the training school were changed and the units rotated.

Regency

The announcement of the Regency in 1132 saw the Corfinium Defence Force rebadged as part of the Regency Army. The role of the force was changed - Corfinium was now to hold open the evacuation routes from the Million Subsector while that Subsector was Abandoned - with Corfinium being evacuated thereafter. To aid in this task, the 4108th Assault Infantry Regiment was slowly upgraded to modern TL–15 equipment when it could get it. The old equipment was stockpiled in reserve.

In 1137 the population was told that it would be withdrawn from Corfinium, but a renewed Dzarrgh Federate offensive pinned the garrison and population in place. The Corfinium Defence Force fought a sporadic war with the Federate until 1139, when the first Virus Fleet appeared and cut the planet off from the Regency. The Regency Army declared the population and its defenders destroyed in 1140.

However, allied with the remaining Federate forces , the Corfinium Defence Force held off the invasion for a decade, fully integrating all the military forces into one cohesive unit and fully mobilising the population in the process. It was only in 1151 that the fact that Corfinium had survived reached the Regency.
