Chathi is a fluid world with an oceanic geography of a liquid other than water such as ammonia, methane, hydrocarbons, or other exotic liquids. The system supports a population of fewer than 10,000 sophonts. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Shallows Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Chathi, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. During the Long Night this world was named Shid.

Mainworld Data

Chathi is a world with an atmosphere primarily composed of carbon dioxide which has resulted in a runaway greenhouse effect, with base temperatures in excess of 350°C.

Native Lifeforms

Despite the excessive heat, Chathi has an extensive, though utterly alien, flora which primarily draws its sustenance from traces of fluorine in the atmosphere and soil.

Recently, the Brethren Uplift Institute (BUI) sent representatives to Chathi to study the mobile plant life known locally as Starspins. Their initial reports would seem to suggest that there is a chance that this species could be uplifted towards true sapience if it were no longer exploited in order to milk ODA² extract from its root systems.

This viewpoint however, has been rejected by Zia'zak SIA who have publicly stated that the report lacks concrete proof as to the plant's potential for gaining even a limited level of sapience.

History and Background

The S'mrii biomedical services phylum Zia'zak have bought the extraction and agricultural rights to this world's flora, and currently harvest several important medicines, including a broad-spectrum antiseptic pad which they sell under the trade name of Medi-Plast and Procreanil Patches, a widely used male contraceptive.

ODA², a compound derived from plants on Chathi, is used in the treatment of Artificial Chromosome Deterioration Complaint.

World Starport (St)

Chathi has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

Linguistic Topography

The following languages are among the most commonly used here:

• Anglic: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.
  • Galaach: An Ushran trade language derived from Anglic, widely spoken throughout the Shallows, Zeda and Ushra subsectors.
• Sfuizia (translated as "InterLanguage" but often referred to as S'mrii): The primary language of the S'mrii, used throughout the S'mrii ConSentiency.
• Vilani: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.
