The highest social status available in the New Earth System is held by the New Earth Council.

History

First established as the Chief Secretary to the Captains Advisory Council with the formation of that body in 1. The title was changed to Captain of the Council in 43. There were, initially, 12 Chief Secretaries and there have been 47 different Captains of the Council.

From 65/66 the hand over of office was fixed as new-years day each year. This was not entirely satisfactory and for the centenial 99/100 hand over the new term was for a fixed 4 years. The number of re-elections was fixed at one after 132. 145 saw three Captains in a single year following multiple political scandals. 176 saw a Captain elected to a second term after another had held office in the interim. 184 saw two Captains, the first having been diagnosed with a terminal illness during their first day in office!

243 saw the Captain Jan Tanga retire with 6 days to go. His already selected successor was appointed Interim Captain.

Three Captains died in office of natural causes; one was assassinated.
