The star Wolf 359 (otherwise known as CN Leonis) is a pinkish-orange UV Ceti type variable main sequence star of spectral type M6.5.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The habitable zone of the Wolf 359 system lies between an inner limit of 0.024AU and an outer limit of 0.052AU.

  • Because of its low mass, the interior of Wolf 359 is completely convective, causing energy to be transferred to the exterior by the movement of plasma rather than through radiative transport. This convection means that the helium ash left over from the thermonuclear fusion of hydrogen does not accumulate at the core, but instead circulates throughout the star. Unlike Sol, which will only burn through about 10% of its total hydrogen supply before leaving the main sequence, Wolf 359 will consume nearly all of its fuel before the fusion of hydrogen comes to an end, becoming smaller and hotter as the fuel is used up and turning into a "blue dwarf" as its end approaches. It will finally end its life as a white dwarf, without having passed through the red-giant phase.

The Wolf 359 star system lies approximately 2.4pc from Terra, and is located in a Rimward/Rimtrailing direction from Terra at bearing 244.1o Galactic Longitude and +56.1o North Galactic Latitude.

  • The closest stellar neighbor to Wolf 359 is the red dwarf star Ross 128 at 1.16 pc away.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Wolf 359 is the primary star of the world Junction/Sol (Solomani Rim 1929).
