Physiology & Ecology[edit]

These animals are strong and hairy, massing between 50-70kg (~110-154 pounds), .8 meters (~2.6 feet) high at the shoulder and 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) long, when full grown.

  • Bloodvarks are most notably known for their great sense of smell. Once put on the trail (by letting them smell a sample of the target, for instance) they will follow it relentlessly without stopping, for days at a time.
  • In good weather, they can follow trails a week old. They will lose the trail after 4 hours of steady hard rain/snow.
  • Bloodvarks do not tire easily, they can be worked on a leash day and night by handlers working in relays.
  • Bloodvarks have extremely poor eyesight and only fair hearing. Normally gentle creatures, they will attack if wounded, cornered, or provoked.
