Ashton is a preindustrial world.

  • As a preindustrial world, this planet cannot yet manufacture enough high-technology resources to support a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
  • This world hopes to one day be one of the subsector's industrial powerhouses, but hasn't yet realized that dream. The leaders of this world are regularly embarking on trade missions to attract more investment capital, worker-immigrants, and other necessary stepping stones to achieve this goal.
  • It is a member of the Trindel Confederacy in the Ashton Subsector of Gateway Sector.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Ashton is the capital of one of the three states that collectively make up the Trindel Confederacy.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Ashton has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Ashton has a population of 90,000,000 sophonts (tens of millions).

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Ashton possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government (G)[edit]

Ashton has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.

World Military[edit]

The Trindel Confederacy's navy consists of ships loaned to a central command structure by the three member states, which in turn receive them under loan from individual worlds. Thus a Confederacy vessel might be serving under its world flag, state flag, or the Confederacy flag, and be subject to different priorities at different times.

World Law (L)[edit]

Ashton has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A few worlds with this law level may be a Red Zone and others will be an Amber Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. Travel documents are frequently checked, and destinations must often be declared when traveling substantial distances across the world.

Historical Data[edit]

The storied Galastrian Metals corporation collapsed during a workers' revolt on Tharver in 302, but within three years the League Concord had been signed, establishing the Galian Trade League, a trade corporation which essentially took over most of Galastrian's former holdings under looser reigns of authority and control. By the mid-500s, the League incorporated all of what is today the Galian Federation, the Plavian League, the Trindel Confederacy, and the coreward worlds of the Viyard Concourse.
