History[edit]

Angler's Cost was founded on Liiri (Deneb 1016) after the Third Frontier War when lots of military surpluses were being sold at bargain rates. In many cases, the surplus was lower TL gear that the planetary and system militaries were dumping as they upgraded to be compatible with the Imperial TL–14 and TL–15 equipment

John Angler was employed to break gear down, removing classified components, before the stuff was sold as scrap. Now and then, he had brainstorms of other uses it could be put - and would bid on the scrap, then try them. Usually, these were toys for his son. Often, in order to get the one part he wanted, he had to bid on a whole pallet, which led to having the parts to make several dozen of "X". As the other kids in the neighborhood saw what little Stephan Angler was playing with, they convinced their parents to pay John to make one for them too... John often said, "Help me put it together, and I'll split the cost of the pallet with you" - and thus, the company was born.

The first wave of toys were kits, all the parts needed, plus an instruction book and vid. Later, as the company grew, you could buy assembled and ready-to-go products. The products still include all the manuals and tools to work on them. On the vehicles, the computers will walk the user through preventative maintenance in an age-appropriate manner. Current manufacturing no longer uses military surplus, though it still keeps to the military specification design look.

Angler's will 'lease' a number of their toys - the person pays a monthly fee and can return the toy when the kid outgrows it. They're charged for reconditioning the toy when they return it, depending on how beat up it is. Most of these things are built from parts meant for a real battlefield and tend to survive kids fairly well, so the amortization period is long enough that the monthly price drops into being something affordable.

There are rumors that the IISS helps fund the company, as a combination 'Early Training / PsyOps' program (Angler is an ex-Scout). Other rumors say the Imperial Marines are (Angler's next-door neighbor, who did kick in a bunch of money to help start the company, is a retired Marine).

In celebration of the year 1000, Zirunkariish found Angler's Cost an almost perfect company to promote in honor of the Third Imperium and provided a superior valuation as well as three superior investors for that valuation (Zirunkariish itself, the company's founding Shiishuginsa family, and the Imperial family). This allowed the company to expand significantly.
