The A-43 class Strike Plane is a combatant Aircraft.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

A-43 class Strike Plane (TECH LEVEL 10) used by a small unit of mercenary Hessians, called Kim's 43rd Royal Guards: The vehicle has a crew of 2, a pilot, and a co-pilot in 2 armored complex cockpits equipped with ejection seats. The plane has powered controls in a STOL transonic airframe. It can carry 2 tons of bombs internally in a dedicated bomb bay. It has a pair of forward firing, stabilized MMGs.

Basic Vehicle Characteristics[edit]

Vehicle volume: loaded combat ready 360m3, with wings removed for transport loaded 120m3.
Total mass: empty: 6 tons loaded: 8 tons.
Production Cost: Cr. 1,464,924.5
Movement:
Empty Maximum 1,100kph/916cm, Cruise 825kph/687cm, Minimum 88kph/73cm.
Loaded Maximum 1,020kph/850cm, Cruise 765kph/637cm.
Movement effect on fire: None
Damage Points: 60 empty, 80 loaded.
Agility: empty 13/loaded 12
Turns: empty/loaded 55o
Equipment: Thermal and Image Enhancement, 10 Power Target Acquisition LADAR, Map Box with GPS, and a 5,000 power radio.
Power: The transonic STOL airframe mounts 0.25MW basic turbofan power plant producing 7.5 tons of thrust and consuming 2.625 liters of fuel per hour, internal fuel capacity 4,790.8 liters, enough for 1,825 hours or 76 days. Thrust to weight produce 1.1875G's empty and 0.86G’s loaded. Range: is limited only by the endurance of the crew.
Weapons:
  • The pair of fully stabilized, fixed forward firing, fire linked Medium Machine Guns which can engage 16 targets/phase. The guns have a +4 signature when they fire. There is interior storage for 3,200 belt-fed rounds, enough for 20 fire phases. A full load of ammo is included in the purchase price. Its other direct fire characteristics are:
Direct Fire Characteristics: MMG
Effective Range: 400m (3) +4
Long Range: 750m (2) +3
Extreme Range: 1.2km (2) +1
  • There is a 2 ton internal bomb bay. The typical load is (20) 100kg iron bombs with 24cm HE 34/6/5 warheads. They cost Cr 300 each and a full load of (20) (+2 tons) is included in the plane's price.

TAC Missile Systems

The plane has five tactical missile launch rails, two wing tip, two under wing and one centerline under the fuselage. The 50kg missiles are armed with a light 17cm HEAP (High Explosive Armor Piercing) warhead capable of penetration 49 on hard steel armor. The HE warhead 27/4/4 is typically used against aircraft. An IR follow-up missile is under development, but has yet to see deployment. These missiles have a long range version and a high performance interceptor variant.

Direct Fire Characteristics: HEAP Warhead Missiles
Type Range Price
HE Homing 64km or 54km +10 DM Cr349
HEAP Homing 64km or 54km +10 DM Cr351

The launch system must be reloaded by qualified ground crew trained in ordinance handling. A single person could lift the missile, this is seldom the SOP. (3) Hyper Velocity HE and (2) Long Range HEAP are included in the price.

Maintenance:
Vehicle: 12
Electronics: 13
Weapons: 15

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

An initial order of two custom proto-type A-43 class Strike Planes planes was made. Kim felt she needed a devastating bomb delivery platform that could operate close to the front lines with minimal support. The first saw combat in her inaugural mercenary ticket for use on Aramanx/Aramis (Spinward Marches 3005). Rumor is she plans to acquire more as soon as finances permit. These were designed for a mercenary Dream Ticket, to be built with money provided upfront by Sternmetal Horizons an interested megacorporation. The total unit budget was MCr30. They are small STOL planes with a bomb bay for free fall unguided iron bombs and powerful engines to arrive alive as soon as possible over unsuspecting targets. They are a rugged design capable of a low minimum stall speed and can operate from crude forward airbases with shorter runways. Their homing missiles are hampered by the platform's limited LADAR range. They can fly in a low profile nape of earth mode with their avionics package. Skilled forward observers are required to coordinate these planes for close air support.
