Llewylla is a poor, nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.

Mainworld Data

Llewylla has a Poor Starport without shipyards, can perform Major repairs, and provides Unrefined fuel. The main world is roughly 8,100 kilometers in diameter, and is a Small terrestrial with gravity 0.25G. The atmosphere has a pressure of 0.2 atmospheres and contains an unusual disease (SPBC) which requires the use of a filter mask. A vaccine is commonly available on the world for this disease. The surface is roughly 20 percent surface water, which qualifies it as a dry world. The main world has a general population of 20,000 local residents, which qualifies it as a Moderate population world. The local government is characterized as Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy, with government by a restricted minority, with little or no input from the masses. Visitors may find the law barely restrictive as machine guns, automatic weapons are regulated or restricted by local authorities.

Mainworld Geography & Topography

The planetary surface is divided between a single vast continent and an expansive ocean which covers roughly 20% of the planet’s surface.
The terrain exhibits diverse geological features, including rugged highlands, sprawling plains, and dense Skeltin forests. While much of the land is relatively open, significant mountain ranges punctuate the landscape, providing natural barriers that influence local ecosystems and weather patterns. These mountains may have formed through tectonic activity or ancient erosion, creating regions rich in unique minerals and microclimates that further shape the planetary environment.
Despite its dry world classification, Llewylla has a high water table, making groundwater readily accessible via wells. This availability supports Skeltin forests, where massive, 300-meter-tall trees thrive by tapping deep into subterranean moisture. The planet also hosts dry grasslands, which stabilize soil and form transitional biomes between forested and mountainous regions.

Native Lifeforms

Due to low gravity, evolutionary adaptations favor gigantic reptilian megafauna, with both land-based and aerial species reaching unparalleled sizes. Massive herbivorous dinosaurs dominate the plains and valleys, browsing the Skeltin canopy, while apex predators like the Avubolis rule the skies.

The Canoraptor

  • Size: Towering at nearly 30 meters tall when standing upright, with an elongated, agile frame built for both terrestrial and arboreal hunting.
  • Locomotion: A combination of powerful hind limbs for short bursts of speed and clawed forelimbs adapted for gripping skeltin trunks and branches. It can scale trees like a giant monitor lizard, ambushing prey from above.
  • Predatory Strategy: Unlike traditional theropods, the Canoraptor blends ambush tactics with pursuit. It stalks prey from the canopy, leaping down onto massive herbivores, driving in elongated sickle-like claws to deliver fatal wounds.
  • Sensory Adaptations: Superior eyesight and heat-sensitive pits along its jaw help it track prey even in dim lighting beneath dense foliage.
  • Social Behavior: Solitary for the most part, though some reports speak of occasional hunting pairs coordinating attacks on the largest prey.
  • Defensive Features: Its size makes it nearly untouchable, but its thick, ridged hide and reinforced skull structure ensure it can withstand counterattacks from the enormous herbivores.

The Avubolis

  • Size: A wingspan exceeding 40 meters, with a sleek, elongated body adapted for both soaring and maneuverability through the dense skeltin canopy.
  • Flight Mechanics: Low gravity allows it to stay aloft effortlessly, using thermal currents from the dry terrain to glide for hours before diving onto prey.
  • Predatory Strategy: It hunts using shadowed ambush tactics—circling high above before suddenly plummeting at terrifying speeds, striking with hooked talons designed to crush and incapacitate even the largest herbivores.
  • Sensory Adaptations: Advanced echolocation and hyper-sensitive eyesight let it track movement from great distances, even in dim lighting.
  • Social Behavior: While largely solitary, it may gather in loose territorial groups, competing over the richest hunting grounds.
  • Defensive Features: Its lightweight but reinforced skeletal structure makes it resilient, and overlapping feather-like scales provide natural armor.

History & Background (Dossier)

World starport

Llewylla has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Llewylla possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government

Llewylla is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions in the government. These positions are inherited by member of the group or their family members. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Law Level

Llewylla has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Military

No information yet available.

World Economy

Llewylla is controlled by a hunting syndicate, which regulates access to the planet for trophy hunters and off-world traders. The Skeltin wood industry thrives in lowland forests, while hunting operations focus on capturing rare megafauna in both lowland plains and high-altitude mountain zones, adding an additional layer of danger to trophy expeditions.
The ocean serves as a critical transport hub, enabling resource distribution and off-world exports.

Trade Data

The majority of the population are involved in the harvest and export of Skeltin wood.

World Culture

Urbanization

The only settlements on the surface are logging and hunting camps.

World Timeline

  • -1939
    • Ships from Exploratory Mission Number 315 arrived and charted Llewylla. They found extensive non-sentient flora and fauna, including reptiles (dinosaurs) of a huge size.
  • 629
    • A scout ship from Skanor arrived, having previously visited Listra, and brought with it the SPBC virus.
  • 863
    • Arrival of The Twelve. Twelve hunters, "claimed" the world in the name of conservation. They tightly controlled access to the planet, regulated hunts, and kept outsiders at bay. They started a hunting business catering to elite clients and wealthy thrill-seekers who paid exorbitant fees for a chance to bag a colossal dinosaur, wearing specialized exo-suits that let them survive the harsh environment but still leave them vulnerable to the hunt. They 'made safe' parts of the world for harvesting Skeltin wood.
  • 908
    • A basic highport was constructed.
