This book outlines mercenary forces, soldier of fortune being a major part of many science fiction books and films, the Traveller setting allows for Imperial planets to have limited wars using local or mercenary forces. This book is the first that featured an expanded character generation system, rolling for yearly results rather than every term of four years.
