A Mainworld is a sociological and planetological term for the one world within a star system on which sophont habitation is centered.

Description (Specifications)

The Mainworld for most sophonts tends to be located within the Habitable Zone of a system, which can be highly variable based upon astrographic considerations such as stellar specifics (the sun's luminosity and type, for example) as well as any particular world's distance from that sun, and the composition of that world's crust and atmosphere.

History & Background (Dossier)

Some systems literally have more than one "center" of habitation, which is another way of saying that there may be two or more habitable planets with strong civilizational development.

  • While in most cases, one of those multiple worlds in a system may take preeminence, it is possible for two or more worlds within one systems to equally and equitably share power as a single, unified polity.
  • Possible but rare.
