The area of space covered by the Waypoint (3038 Far Home) will eventually hold three separate large refuelling and supply depots, each positioned approximately 1 light-year apart and each one relatively closer to its named destination system. As of 5600AD only one (the Sshkih Station) has been completed, with the remaining two still in the early stages of construction.

Sshkih station is a cylindrical structure built around vast hydrogen holding tanks and transfer and pumping equipment. It has extensive storage spaces, large hangers, and accommodations and facilities adequate for thousands of individuals, though the current permanent population numbers only a few hundred. It is constantly attended by various small craft, it retains repair and rescue vessels, and huge transports and streamlined tankers unload alongside berthing arms. The station has integral defenses and maintains a dedicated defense squadron made up of powerful warships.

The entire (3038 Far Home) hex is covered by a network of navigational beacons. Each beacon is large, with a power plant, an onboard computer and a powerful communications array. They contain emergency supplies and equipment which can be accessed by spacefarers in need. Beacons transmit navigational and locational information enabling vessels to plot a course to one of the stations within the hex.

History & Background / Dossier

Early History: Sath were contacted by humans around 2320AD. They improved their technological base and by 2500AD had made their first independent interstellar jump.

The ongoing differences between humans and Sath restricted Sath access to commercially available jump-2 drives - human traders disliked the idea of selling such items to a species that had vowed to wipe them out. For the most part Sath were forced to rely on their own domestically produced jump-1 drives.

The Sath quickly spread throughout the K’shek cluster – their initial burst of expansion coincided with the self-imposed isolation of the Second Confederation, effectively giving the Sath a free hand in the area.

The Sha’a Cluster, to coreward, was regularly visited by Sath vessels fitted with additional fuel tankage and its systems had well established populations. The Sath created two Calibration Points – Sch'ikaa Waypoint (2435 Far Home) and Tiirk'sch Waypoint (2536 Far Home) – so that convential jump-1 vessels could travel unhindered between the two clusters.

Both Waypoints remained in operation until the arrival of the Voyagers in 3730AD.

Recent History: Sath within the K’shek cluster rebuilt their technological base during the Renaissance and had restarted interstellar travel by the late 49th century. However, their technology and infrastructure was insufficient to allow jump-2 drives to be built. The Sch'ikaa and Tiirk'sch Waypoints were rebuilt. By 5100AD both were in regular service.

By around 5550AD the Sath technological base had advanced to the point where they were able to construct their own jump-2 drives. The Waypoints, functioning far beyond their projected lifetimes, were in a perilous condition. Both Waypoints were decomissioned in 5560AD and broken up for scrap in the 5580s.

The Sath are currently in the process of constructing a new Calibration Point, located within deep space at (3038 Far Home), to give conventional jump-2 vessels access to the systems of the Hak'tha Spread. It is incomplete but is operational.
