The Lifeboat is designed to transport passengers in a variety of circumstances. It uses the same basic hull as the [[Fringian Launch|Launch]]. Similar designs have been in use from the time the [[Distant Fringe]] was first settled.

* The vessel is a TL 9 design.

=== Hull ===

The Lifeboat is constructed using 50-dTon hull built in a generally cone-shaped configuration. The hull is fully streamlined.

* Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls. Sections of the ship can be isolated in the event of an emergency.

* The hull includes internal grav plates and inertial compensators. All accessible sections of the hull have life support.

=== Engineering ===

The vessel mounts a maneuver-2 drive and a power plant 2, giving performance of 2G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 2. There is fuel tankage of 1 dTon, giving the power plant four weeks duration.

The vessel is equipped with a computer model/1 and a pilot’s acceleration couch. There are 85 passenger acceleration couches.

The Lifeboat requires 1 crew: a pilot. If the vessel is carried as a small craft, this individual serves as service crew aboard the parent vessel when not required for piloting duties.

A Lifeboat is a type of smallcraft found operating within the Distant Fringe region.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Within the Distant Fringe, a lifeboat is usually identified as a general purpose utility smallcraft. Lifeboats most commonly serve as emergency subcraft on a larger parent vessel and are typically housed within a specialized easy to access hangar.

  • While aboard a parent vessel and not active as flight crew, the lifeboat's personnel may be assigned alternate duties such as service crew.

Lifeboats – usually rebranded as passenger transports – may also be encountered operating as in-system transports, ferrying personnel between outposts and settlements located on different worlds within a system.

Smallcraft - Lifeboat:

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The convention of declaring a smallcraft a lifeboat is common practice. In reality there is no discernible difference between a lifeboat and any other smallcraft fitted out for short- to medium-duration passenger transportation.
