A Named Fleet is a group of two or more fleets organized into an administrative and strategic unit.

Description[edit]

Sector Fleets: The Imperium has 28 named sector fleets which have ranged in size from two numbered fleets to more than 20; currently the smallest has two and the largest have 16. In the standard naval organization of the Imperium, each sector has a named fleet which is composed of one numbered fleet from each subsector.

Background[edit]

Special Fleets: Doctrine also provides for the creation of named fleets at any time; such special fleets can carry names that denote their function or their mission. Specially named fleets are a common way of deploying and controlling large numbers of ships. Such special Fleets can also be known by the terms Battle Fleet, Battle Group, or Task Force, among others, depending on both size and purpose.
