Mainworld Data[edit]

Mainworld Size (S)[edit]

Tsanesi is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Tsanesi has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.

Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]

Tsanesi has 25-35% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has a few small seas. Wilderness refueling is possible. Water for the inhabitants will be recycled.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Tsanesi is one of two worlds in the Caledon Subsector inhabited by a nonhuman sophont race.

A Caledonian research outpost is maintained on Tsanesi (as well as a sizable naval forward operating base on one of the system's satellites), and the world is officially listed as a Protectorate of the Principality of Caledon. Scientists continue to study the Yn-tsai in hopes of learning the secret of their origins and the explanation for certain odd facets of their culture, such as their incongruous pacifism.

Currently accepted theories hold that the Yn-tsai are descended from a slave race under the dominion of the mysterious Saie, but their origins remain a major puzzle. A few scientists maintain them to be another race transplanted by the Ancients, but evidence is against this.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Tsanesi has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Tsanesi has a population of 2,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
  • The population consists of Yn-tsai.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Tsanesi possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World Government (G)[edit]

Tsanesi is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.

World Law (L)[edit]

Tsanesi has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

Offworld Relations[edit]

When first contacted, the Yn-tsai were an enigma to human explorers. They do not fit into the pattern of life on Tsanesi and could not have evolved on the planet. The first explorers found them to be a peaceful (indeed, a pacifistic) culture -- odd for descendents of carnivores. They had a TL–3 culture at the time and a feudal society. Most noticeable of all was the fact that the Yn-tsai were terrified of "strangers beyond the sky", and regarded the first off-world visitors to their planet with a mixture of fear, suspicion, and awe. Caledonian merchants, scientists, and explorers gradually won a grudging acceptance on Tsanesi, but the Yn-tsai remain reclusive, somewhat xenophobic, and few in number. Their technology has increased over the centuries, but they still show a definite desire to avoid those elements of technology devoted to warfare or to space travel.
