The Parliamentary Monarchists are a political faction within the government of the Third Imperium.

Description (Specifications)

Parliamentary Monarchists are a faction within both the Moot Monarchist Bloc and the Imperial Monarchist Movement. While they support the hereditary monarchy ruling from the Iridium Throne, they also support granting expanded legislative powers to the Imperial Moot, which would have the effect of turning the Third Imperium into a type of parliamentary system. Under this system the Emperor would still retain veto power over bills passed by the Moot, however.

Governmental Reforms

In addition to expanding the Moot's lawmaking powers, the Parliamentary Monarchists desire to vest executive authority in a Council of Ministers. Some of them also support granting the Moot more of a say in who would be granted titles within the system of Imperial Nobility and the revoking of noble status, especially regarding the Archdukes and the Sector Dukes.

The Parliamentary Monarchists represent a middle path between more traditional Monarchists and the Moot's Republican Faction.

History & Background (Dossier)

The Imperial Monarchist Movement looks back to the founding of the Third Imperium and the form of its establishment by Cleon I. The establishment of the extraordinary expedient of the "Right of Assassination" to deal with the problem of Cleon III as well as the later failure of a clear succession of both the Lentuli and Zhunastu family lines during the antebellum period led to the subsequent precedent of the choice of Non-dynastic Emperors by Moot ratification or confirmation of claimants as a standard practice in the period leading up to the events of the Imperial Civil War. The turmoil of this period and its sense that anyone of sufficient noble standing and ambition could potentially seize the throne with the right connections in the Moot or in the military led many to long for the days of the founding of the Imperium and the dignity to be found in its established precedents and laws of inheritance as to who had the right to wield "imperium" and ascend the Iridium Throne.

The Imperial Monarchist Bloc within the modern Imperial Moot recalls the turmoil of the period of the Non-dynastic Emperors and the reestablishment of order and stability by the current dynasty, the Alkhalikois, and thus finds itself in opposition to the Imperial Republic Faction of the Moot which seeks to abolish the Hereditary Monarchy and transform the Imperium into an Interstellar Imperial Republic, strongly opposing the sub-faction of the bloc that wishes to create a limited-term Monarch or an elected "executive council" oligarchy in place of the hereditary monarch.

During the reign of Emperor Strephon, the Imperial Monarchist Movement in general supports the Alkhalikoi family dynasty.
