Torrel is a high-population world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Ile Subsector of Old Expanses Sector in the Domain of Sol.
- This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
- It also has an Imperial Scout base, capable of handling IISS starships and personnel.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)
The surface gravity is 0.31 Gs and the atmospheric pressure is 0.48 atmospheres. The planet's core is molten iron and the planet has a density of 4.58 g/ml. The climate is cold.
Twelve worlds orbit this red star.
System Data
The moon Jerefnos (Y558365-9) is the site of a large, heavily mechanized farming community, the source of food for several hundred million Torrelians. Jerefnos boasts one of the Imperium's larger computer-managed farms, with a massive network of computers and automated devices looking after most of the cultivation, maintenance, and harvesting chores. In many respects, Jerefnos is more hospitable than Torrel, which causes some people to wonder why Torrel became the system's mainworld in the first place.
Mainworld Data
Tidal stresses produced by the gas giant Amra invoke frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
Mainworld Geography & Topography
A small but densely-populated world, visitors have described it as "a subsector crowded onto a large moon."
As small as Torrel is, it only supports its current population due to substantial terraforming, most specifically in the areas of greenhouse effect, albedo, and terrain. Though large mountain ranges never existed (erosion is an active force here and the entire world consists of a single tectonic plate), the few lesser ranges had to be virtually leveled to create additional land for urban development.
Native Lifeforms
There were no native lifeforms.
History & Background (Dossier)
Despite being somewhat isolated astrographically and notoriously resource-poor, Torrel boasts some of the largest civilian electronic component factories in known space. Most of the megacorporations maintain large offices here, and many smaller firms have made this system their headquarters.
Imperial High (Landed) Nobility
Torrel, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdom of a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversees affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.
- It holds the estate of an Imperial knight, the Imperial representative to the world.
- It holds the fiefdom of an Imperial count.
World Starport (St)
Torrel has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
Urbanization
Although there are more than three dozen separate cities on Torrel, and although each one would qualify in territory and population as a city-state, "the city" to most natives is Torrel Oro (which, translated from the local dialect, means "home of the people").

World Government
The leading governmental authority on Torrel is divided equally between the executive and judicial branches. Each city-state maintains its own executive great council -- with between 3 and 15 members -- and judicial high court, with between 1 and 13 members, depending upon its population and territory. When issues affect more than a single city, the entire councils for all cities involved meet in a joint session, with each councilmember or courtier receiving a single vote; if all members of a given council agrees unanimously, the council itself is awarded an additional vote on its members' behalf.
World Military
The huge population means that there is vast amounts of shipyard capacity at the starport. Imperial recruitment here can sustain 150,000 defensive battalions. As a result, the 2694th AssaultRon, of the 269th Fleet, is stationed here at the Naval Base to take advantage of this troop strength. The Scout Base is home to the 269.S1 ScoutRon, which enjoys the benefits of a large maintenance labor pool to keep its vessels in optimal running order.
World Economy
Torrel has only one chief resource -- skilled, educated labour. Natural resources are virtually non-existent, and agricultural products do not cultivate well in the world's characteristic rocky soils.
Trade Data
Torrel imports foodstuffs and agroproducts, and exports electronics and heavy equipment for buyers in half a dozen subsectors. Many merchants on jump-adequate starships spend their entire working lives travelling between Torrel and a neighboring system or two, beginning as cabin boys/girls and retiring as merchant fleet captains.
