• It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the New Islands Subsector of Reft Sector.

History and background

Colonized from Neubayern (Reft 1822) during the slow-ship era of colonization. In the era after the introduction of the Jump Drive to the Island Clusters, additional colonists from New Colchis (Reft 1327) arrived. The new residents have taken political control away from the original inhabitants. New Colchis gained its colony of Herzenslust in this manner.

In the Regency era, both New Colchis and Joyeuse (Reft 1628) claimed Herzenslust, placing troops on the ground. The Regency declared Herzenslust an Amber Zone.

World Starport

Herzenslust has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.

Economy

Deep asteroid mining operations extracting Lanthanum for Jump drives are run not by the local government but by the Islandbridge Trading Corporation.

Urbanization

The population of Herzenslust is more dispersed than that of New Colchis, though new arrivals tend to congregate at the new capital. A New Colchis-style city-state is emerging there, while the rest of the planet is settled by small communities.

Military

Herzenslust is defended by a small orbital defence installation, a converted freighter hull to which a number of additional components have been added. Ground-based missile batteries secure the capital spaceport. The rest of Herzenslust is not well defended, relying on local defence associations, which are essentially volunteer militia, equipped with small arms provided by the government. This concentration on protecting central assets is in keeping with New Colchis' general philosophy but leaves outlying settlements feeling abandoned.
