Gil Jamar is a Human^* from Starn.

Gil Jamar is a quiet womaniser, is known to drink heavily - is introspective, private and tough. He has an overprotective gene that means he treats his colleagues as his responsibility and is terribly disappointed in himself when the (inevitably) cannot protect them.

^* The Jamar family is actually of the minor-human race Vlazhdumecta - not that anyone cares provided Gil bathes regularly (which he does).

History & Background (Biography)

Gil Jamar joined Tukera Lines in 1118 and worked on ships throughout the Deneb Sector. He had a lot of interaction with the Lurent - mostly dealing with their world-ships - but his career with the company ended abruptly in 1126 when his ship was destroyed by Vargr raiders. His good looks were transformed at the same time and he was badly scarred in a fire aboard the ship.

Gil Jamar then drifted for a period, until caught up by a sweep for Volunteers for the 1st (Assault) Battalion, 8041st Regency Marine Line Regiment. Returning from a raid on a Corsair raiding base in the Million Subsector, the troops were given leave on Gabrael. Gil had managed to get insensibly drunk after winning an illegal wrestling match (and became separated from his mates) - and was thus was listed as a "Deserter" when the troop ship left without him.

Gil was somewhat desperate for work when he landed the role of Master at Arms on the Dog-Tag, but Hagan (the captain) felt a certain sympathy for an unlucky fellow Marine.
