Desirability, or Planetological Desirability is a generalized measure of a planet's ability to sustain Life, and more specifically Conventional Life.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

Numerous properties combine to form a life-sustaining environment. Conventional Life requires a planet large enough to retain an atmosphere, an adequate geomagnetic field to protect against excessively harmful radiation, the presence of water or a similar liquid solvent, a pleasant climate, the right Goldilocks Zone, and an unoppressive gravity.

Selected Desirable Planetological Properties[edit]

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Space is full of voids and rifts, large areas bereft of planets, stars, or anything short of micro amounts of interstellar substances (...dust). In such areas of nearly complete emptiness, a habitable world is a hugely valued commodity. The more empty an area is, the more value a habitable world possesses. Imperial society is served by the IISS, an institution that serves exploratory and paramilitary functions, most other polities have an Explorer Service, dedicated to creating accurate star charts and searching out inhabitable worlds and rich sources of desirable resources.
