Stormrider class Meson Monitor was designed and built by the shipyards of Inar (Deneb 1213), the Stormrider is intended to hide within the atmosphere of a gas giant and deny its use to hostile ships. The armored hull enables the Stormrider to survive long tours of duty deep in a gas giant. The ship depends on hundreds of small sensor drones to target its meson guns. An integral part of the Inar System Defense, the drones are scattered throughout the gas giant's area of space, and communicate with each other and the monitor using maser comm-links. Stormriders often operate in squadrons, with all the ships guarding a gas giant linked into one sensor/comm-net.
The Stormrider' is a large sphere, with the decks oriented perpendicular to the direction of thrust. The Thrusters and Meson-G occupy the centerline of the ship. The two meson bays are in the top half of the sphere, while the missile bays are spaced around the equator. The deck orientation allows this ship to use its thrusters to maintain station without needing the internal grav field and inertial compensation activated. The ship is thus harder to spot on densitometer scans.
The integral scoops allow the Stormrider to remain on station indefinitely, drawing fuel from the surrounding gas giant. The ship has the capacity to carry life support supplies for some time, and is designed to be as comfortable an environment as possible for the 126 crew members.
