Description / Specifications

The Heavy Fighter is an inexpensive, reliable vessel designed to engage enemy units from close range. Similar designs have been in use from the time the Distant Fringe was first settled.

• The vessel is a TL 9 design.

Hull

The Heavy Fighter is constructed using a 20-dTon hull built in a generally wedge-shaped configuration. The hull is fully streamlined. It is defined as a microfighter due to its small size.

• The crew compartment includes internal grav plates and inertial compensators and has full life support facilities.

Engineering

The vessel mounts a maneuver-6 drive and a power plant G, giving performance of 6G acceleration. The ship has an agility rating of 6. There is fuel tankage of 3 dTons, giving the power plant almost 4 weeks duration.

Main Section

The vessel is equipped with a computer model/2 and two acceleration couches.

• The vessel is fitted with communications equipment, an advanced sensor array, full ECM, and an avionics suite.

Crew

History

An ubiquitous design used throughout the Distant Fringe, the Heavy Fighter is durable and reliable. The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the allotted weapons systems and onboard electronics. Despite their status as space fighters, many designs of this type have airframe features, augmenting their handling characteristics within planetary atmospheres.
