The Obsidian class Asteroid Monitor is a system defense gun platform.
Description (Specifications)
These buffered asteroids carry the heaviest meson spinal mount available in the Federation. With limited maneuver capabilities and no pursuit agility, it must lie in wait to allow prey to come to it. They can carry a commando platoon. They are reliant on support vessels in order to stay on station for longer than a couple of weeks. The fleet tenders can be reconfigured easily to move these monitors from system to system when needed.
History & Background (Dossier)
It was designed and built for the Alsas Navy.
