Myrhan is a poor, nonindustrial world.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- This world has few prospects for economic development.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Genesti Subsector of Far Home Sector.
Astrography and Planetology
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
System Data
Wantan-Myrhan System
The primary is Wantan, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.334 Sols, a mass of 0.457 Sols and a diameter of 711,000 km. (I-I) Myrhan, designated the mainworld, and (I-II) Suran, a thin atmosphere hospitable world, have a shared orbit within the habitable zone. Neither world retains satellites.
Kombu Subsystem
The companion is Kombu, a red subdwarf star which orbits Wantan at a mean separation of 3.1 AU and has an orbital period of 8 years 27 days. It has a luminosity of 0.002 Sols, a mass of 0.104 Sols and a diameter of 145,000 km. (I) a dense rocky planetoid belt forms the outer system.
Mainworld Data
(I-I) Myrhan
(I-I) Myrhan is designated the mainworld. It orbits Wantan at a mean distance of 0.13 AU (19.5 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 25 days 8 hours: it is tidally locked to Wantan. The axial tilt is 4 degrees. Myrhan has a diameter of 8,633 km, a density of 5.98 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.79 G. Tidal stresses cause geological activity and seismic events are common. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.25 bar and a composition of 82% nitrogen, 16% oxygen, 1% carbon dioxide, and 1% argon, carbon monoxide, neon and other trace gases. The taint is caused by a combination of a low percentage of atmospheric oxygen, gases of volcanic origin, and relatively high levels of background radiation: emission rates average 1 rad per hour. Approximately 34% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature: 18°C. The atmosphere is active and regional weather systems, driven by the star and the geography, sweep around the globe. The world's climate is static.
Mainworld geography and topography
Total surface area: 234 million km², Land surface area: 154 km², Water surface area: 80 million km². Myrhan's bright face is a hot stony desert bathed in the unending glare of the star. Towards the sub-bright and temperate rings the climate becomes cooler and wetter, eventually giving way to the iceberg-littered Loop Sea. The waters give way to glacier fields and arid coldlands. The dark face is permanently crusted with ice, frost and snow. Despite its strong magnetosphere, charged particles streaming off of the star are gradually stripping away Myrhan's atmosphere. Predictions suggest that it will have been reduced to a rating of Trace within a few tens of millions of years. Aurora are visible in the skies at all times.
Secondary World Data
(I-II) Suran
(I-II) Suran (UWP Y534000-0) is designated a thin atmosphere hospitable world. It orbits Wantan at a mean distance of 0.17 AU (25.4 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 37 days 21 hours: it is tidally locked to Wantan. The axial tilt is 3 degrees. Suran has a diameter of 7,792 km, a density of 4.53 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.50 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Wantan cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.43 bar and a composition of 84% nitrogen, 15% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 43% of the surface is covered in seas of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.3m. Mean surface temperature: 16°C. The atmosphere is slow and weak weather systems driven by the star and the seas drift across the globe. The climate is static.
Geography and topography
Total surface area: 191 million km², Land surface area: 109 million km², Water surface area: 82 million km².
Native Lifeforms
Myrhan has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find shelter and nutrition. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal. The largest recorded lifeforms are primitive worms measuring millimeters in length inhabit the Loop Sea. A number of varieties of hardy offworld flora have been introduced, both accidentally and purposefully, and in some areas they are thriving, despite the harsh, marginal conditions.

History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Myrhan has a Class E Starport, a frontier quality installation with few expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of a downport.
World technology level
Myrhan possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World government
Myrhan is governed by Self-Perpetuating Oligarchy. A single family or small group provides the leadership and important positions within the government. These positions are inherited by members of the group or by their relatives. The organization may be a monarchy, with titles passed to family members, or a plutocracy where inheritance of the family fortune includes government position. Alternatively, the organization may be a more typical government apparatus, only with positions of power inherited.
