Xadis is a ring of many small worldlets (planetoids AKA an "asteroid belt"), not capable of retaining an atmosphere or water, and are both non-agricultural and nonindustrial in nature.
- These worldlets warrant hazardous environment precautions.
- Life in a vacuum requires great discipline. After all, it only takes one forgotten seal on a vacuum suit to spell death. Those who survive tend to be very methodically-minded and attentive to small detail.
- They require extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- The worldlets are, for the most part, unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
- These worldlets have very few prospect for economic expansion.
- It is a member of the High Senate in the Loran Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
Astrography and Planetology
The Xadis system is a part of the Afkhar Cluster.
System Data
Zennon-Xadis System
The primary is Zennon, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0202 Sols, a mass of 0.3942 Sols, and a diameter of 604,000 km. (I) a dense atmosphere stormworld, (II) a vacuum iceworld, (III) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (IV) the Xadis Main Belt, designated the mainworld, (V) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (VI) a large gas giant, (VII) a ringed small gas giant, (VIII) a ringed ice giant, (IX) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (X) a large gas giant, and (XI) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data
(V) Xadis Main Belt
(V) the Xadis Main Belt orbits within the outer zone and is designated the mainworld. It lies at a mean distance of 0.7 AU from the star and is primarily made up of carbonaceous bodies with diameters of less than 200 km. The inner edge of the belt, with a higher concentration of nickel-iron bodies, is considered to lie at around 0.2 AU from the star and the the outer edge of the belt is considered to lie at approximately 0.4 AU. The main inhabited body is named Theft, with a mean orbital distance of 0.25 AU around Bessel and an orbital period of 41 days 6 hours. It has a long axis of 350 km, a density of 3.77 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.019 G. It retains no atmosphere and has no hydrographics. Mean surface temperature: -132°C in sunlight, -195°C in shadow.
Native lifeforms
No world in the Xadis system is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)
No information yet available.
World starport
Xadis has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level
Xadis possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World government
Xadis is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
