The Zelig Journal is a paper document in the form of a bound journal written between 2155–2180AD.
Description / Specifications
It is the personal diary of Lieutenant Alisa Zelig, an officer aboard the Destiny Bastion, a long-range Armored Cruiser of the Last Armada. It is written in 22nd century Terran German and frequently uses abbreviations, colloquialisms, and slang, which has in some instances made translation difficult. Although fragmentary, it gives details on events and locations such as the Last Depot, the Desolate Path, The Bridge, the Angels of the Rift, and Laurent's Reef.
History & Background / Dossier
The journal, which covers almost 25 years, actually corresponds to only three years of Zelig’s life – the long gaps appear to correspond with periods that Lieutenant Zelig spent in cold sleep. It survived Cutting the Ties when many other personal papers and documents did not.
Much of the content is anecdotal or gossipy in nature, though the final entries relate to Zelig’s pregnancy and the birth of her daughter. This child, Magdalena, was born after Cutting the Ties and is considered to be the first human of true Distant Fringe origins; Magdalena is known to have been present at Year One.
Events
The later entries in the journal mention a number of astronomical phenomena and events:
- the Laurent's Reef anomaly and
the loss of a cruiser and its supporting tanker.
- Scout vessels were dispatched towards The Cauldron nebula in Cauldron Sector.
