The Moat Rifts are regions of low stellar density.
Description / Specifications
The Moat Rifts are a Shadow Rift that surrounds the Demon Cluster – the Distant Fringe – on its immediate spinward, coreward and trailing sides. They divide the Cluster from the greater Empty Stars region. At their rimward extremes the Rifts merge with the Great Void, and at their coreward edge they connect to the Border Rifts, empty regions lying between Halcyon Sector and Far Home Sector.
- The Bourne Cloud, located in Bourne Sector, lies within the Moat Rifts.
History & Background / Dossier
The Moat Rifts are the closest of the Shadow Rifts that distinguish the astrography of the Empty Stars region. They are perceived as a natural protective barrier against any advance into the region by the Vilani. The Abbot Spur, in Bourne Sector, is considered to be the only route across the Moat Rifts and into the Distant Fringe.
- The Nabile Deep Space Fuel Cache, lying at the coreward-trailing end of the Abbot Spur, facilitates crossing the trailing edge of the Rift.
