Description / Specifications
The Bulk Carrier is a large commercial transport commonly encountered operating within clusters of stars within the Distant Fringe region. It is classified as a Bulk Cargo Carrier and is constructed as a conventional design vessel.
Hull
The Bulk Carrier is constructed using a 75000 dTon hull built in a dispersed structure configuration. The hull is unstreamlined.
Engineering
The vessel mounts a DeVoss-type jump-1 drive, a maneuver-1 drive, and a power plant 1, giving performance of jump-1 and 1G acceleration. There is fuel tankage of 8250 dTons, sufficient for one jump-2 and giving the power plant four weeks duration.
Main Section
Adjacent to the bridge is a computer model/5: the vessel carries an additional backup computer model/5. There are 200 staterooms and 500 low berths, primarily used to transport livestock. Double occupancy accommodations are required for all except the command crew. 7 staterooms are available to paying passengers. Cargo capacity amounts to 55600 dTons.
- The Bulk Carrier requires 348 crew: 38x command, 53x engineering, 30x gunnery, and 225x service, of which 33 double up as flight crew for the subcraft as required. In addition, the vessel carries a passenger steward and a medic.
Weapons
The ship has 4 missile bays and 190 turrets, grouped into twelve batteries of 10 triple sandcasters and seven batteries of 10 triple beam lasers. There are 520 unused hardpoints but no additional space is set aside for fire control.
Subcraft
The ship carries two 1200 dTon Heavy Landers and a 40 dTon Ship’s Boat, each housed in a designated berthing position.
Cost
The vessel, complete with all of its subcraft, costs MCr20549.372: all of the ships are standard designs and all qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the total price to MCr16439.498.
