Mainworld Data

Diam Kani was the site of a failed terraforming experiment in which genetically engineered airplants -- a collection of oxygen-producing plants, fungi and lichen -- were strategically spread over the surface in an effort to thicken the world's atmosphere. The original expedition failed to find aquifers or other sources of liquid water, and funding dried up before they could import the needed hydrogen and nitrogen. Oxygen generated by the airplants is bled off, at only a slightly slower rate than it is generated.

• Diam Kani is a member of the Imperium.

Aursis has converted Diam Kani -- also known as Saandeth -- into a 'war world', a place where squabbling systems in Ch'naar subsector can air out their grievances with one another without wreaking havoc on their own environments. Apparently, the idea originated from a chance encounter with a high-ranking Aslan member of the Imperial Guard. Critics of the concept maintain that it weakens the urge to engage in meaningful diplomacy to avoid conflict altogether.

Diam Kani, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.

• It holds the estate of an Imperial knight.

World Starport

Diam Kani has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
