System Data[edit]

Cossens-Young System[edit]

The primary is Cossens, a dim red subdwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.00103 Sols, a mass of 0.081 Sols, and a diameter of 109,000 km. (I-I) a trace atmosphere radworld, (I-II) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (II) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, and (III) Hara, a small gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

  • The star experiences periodic flare activity.

(III) Hara[edit]

(III) Hara is a small gas giant that orbits Hara at a mean distance of 0.63 AU (94.2 million km), within the outer system, and has an orbital period of 1 year 277 days. It has a diameter of 26,000 km and an atmosphere consisting of 91% hydrogen (H2), 9% helium (He), and less than 1% methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH3), water vapor (H2O) and other trace gases. It is a bland blue color with narrow bands of white storm clouds. It retains a family of two major satellites.

Satellites[edit]

Hara retains two major satellites:

(IIIa) Consel (UWP YS00000-0, orbiting at 7 Diameters/180,000 km)
(IIIb) Young (designated the mainworld, orbiting at 11 Diameters/285,000 km)

Mainworld Data[edit]

(IIIb) Young[edit]

(IIIb) Young is the outer of the two major moons of (III) Hara and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 11 diameters (285,000 km), with an orbital period of 26 days 10 hours: it is tidally locked to Hara. The axial tilt is 3 degrees relative to Hara. Young has a diameter of 2,535 km, a density of 4.13 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.15 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Hara cause frequent geological activity. The atmosphere is rated as Vacuum. Around 7% of the surface is covered in sheets of water-ice and methane-ice. Mean surface temperature: -185°C.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 20 million km², Land surface area: 18.6 million km², Ice surface area: 1.4 million km².

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Cossens-Young System[edit]

No world in the system is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Young has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Young possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World government[edit]

Young has no central government for the world, an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
