Urdi has an unbreathably thin atmosphere and very little surface water. The system has a population between 1 million and 10 million sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This world has a research station engaged in the scientific pursuit of knowledge. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Khandi Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Urdi, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel. During the Long Night this world was named Inmiind.
Description (Planetology)[edit]
Urdi is a member of the Sylean Main.
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Urdi is the location of an IISS seismological research establishment.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
The majority of the population are descended from bonded laborers brought from Khandi (Dagudashaag 2119) to build the Scout facility. The contracting companies considered it not worth shipping the workforce home when the construction was finished. They live in the caverns below the research base, sited on one of the few seismically stable locations on the planet.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Urdi has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Urdi has a population of 6,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
World Government (G)[edit]
Urdi is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are typically young governments, coming as a recent change, and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.
The world was governed for many years by an oligarchy comprised of the descendants of the original site foremen. Their rule was often harsh and there were frequent disputes with the Scout administrators over sophont rights issues.
In 1079 an uprising led by Lai Astervada, a corporal in the Civic Guard, overthrew the oligarchy. The old government made an unsuccessful attempt to retake the government in 1095.
Astervada and the other heroes of the revolution are now growing old and the new generation of leadership has been tainted with corruption scandals. Meanwhile, the population is growing disenchanted with the inability of their current leadership to deliver on promised improvements to the quality of life.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Urdi has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Urdi possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
