History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Tappon is not an interstaller society, although the higher levels of government are aware of the system starport, and have had contact with the Imperium. The Imperium has decided with agreement from the world leaders that the world is not quite ready for interdiction, but the people of Tappon are being preapred. Access to the world is not banned, but is only available on application, and there are strict guidelines for all visitors. This is primarily to allow the people of Tappon to develop the last few tech levels on their own. Tappon is a world where music is central to the lives of all people. There are very few books - instead there are epic songs and operas. The most popular news broadcasters sing their articles. When anything happens the most common response is "I'm going to write a song about that". When people meet, one of the first things asked in conversation is "What's your instrument?". As of 1105 The world had not become a stellar society, but the best musicians are not just known on Tappon. Talent agents have long known how good the music of Tappon is, and unbeknownst to the artists, their music has spread throughout the sector. Agents from other world will visit Tappon and sign not just the best talent, but any talent. The money they sign the acts with is not just from Tappon, but from music sales through the sector. This means that music is not just the love of the people of Tappon, but also a huge source of plentary income.

On Tappon, while you have a birth name, and it's not kept secret in any way, tradition is that by coming of age, everyone has adopted a alias and this is how they are known. Some famous name include "Flamingo Girl", "Memphis Slim", "Miss Wire Waist", "Baby Driver" and "Wolfman Jack".

World starport[edit]

Tappon has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World technology level[edit]

Tappon possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Advanced automobiles.
    • Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
    • Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
    • Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government[edit]

Tappon is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
