Talk:Vanguard Reaches Sector
The primary version of The Vanguard Reaches detailed in the main wiki article is the version produced for Mongoose Traveller, 2nd Edition by Geir Lanesskog.
Meta-History & Background[edit]
The Classic Traveller Paranoia Press Vanguard Reaches book has been declared non-canon (but keep reading).
- The data for the 1991 Online Updates for this non-canon version of the sector is located here: Vanguard Reaches Sector/Paranoia Press.
- The data for the 2017 T5 Atlas of the Imperium: Second Survey version of the sector is located here: Vanguard Reaches Sector/T5SS-Atlas.
- (Note that the T5SS-Atlas pages also include information from the original 1981 publication as rumors and misinformation detailed on linked subpages labelled "RSDT-Allarton Survey Data").
Background:
- In 1980/1981, the original Classic Traveller version of the Vanguard Reaches Sector was published by Paranoia Press (authored by Chuck Kallenbach II).
- In 1997, the Classic Traveller Paranoia Press "Vanguard Reaches" underwent 1991 Online Updates by Chuck Kallenbach. It is largely reworked in order to conform to the later Sunbane astrographical dot-maps of the Vanguard Reaches Sector.
- In 2015, the Paranoia Press Vanguard Reaches material underwent T5 Second Survey review and updates by Don McKinney to bring it up to T5 standards. It largely utilized the original astrographical map of the Vanguard Reaches from the 1981 Paranoia Press publication as its basis, with a few introduced additions from the 1991 updates added where necessary for consistency with other publications.
Current Publications:
- In 2017, the updated T5 Second Survey reviewed version of the Paranoia Press Vanguard Reaches Sector material was published in the T5 Atlas of the Imperium: Second Survey, by Far Future Enterprises.
- In 2022, Vanguard Reaches Sector was extensively reviewed and overhauled by Geir Lanesskog, drawing data and inspiration from all of the above sources and published as a definitive harmonized version in the The Spinward Extents for Mongoose Traveller 2nd Ed, by Mongoose Publishing.

Notes (2017)[edit]
The Paranoia Press Vanguard Reaches material has since been vetted through the T5SS process has been re-canonized and is "In Review". This material has referenced the 1991 updates by Chuck Kallenbach, and has been somewhat altered relative to the published Paranoia Press product due to the T5SS vetting process.
The Sunbane data is now non-canonical.

Notes: Canon Conflict (July 2024)[edit]
The Canon & Map issue is a little more complicated. The "most current" (and most detailed and harmonized version) is the Mongoose (MgT2) Version by Geir Lanesskog in Spinward Extents. But there is another "current" (and in-print/published version) in the T5 Atlas of the Imperium by Far Future, which contains Don McKinney's revisions of The Beyond & Vanguard Reaches based on the 1981 Paranoia Press material and updated with some 1991 Paranoia Press data (the 1991 version was also partially used by Geir).
What is the likelihood of running Geir's Spinward Extents version as the primary page, and having a secondary subpage version (e.g. "Vanguard Reaches/T5-Atlas") for the other version? One could then do an additional subpage from that to detail Chuck Kallenbach's explanation that the Royal Trelyn Scout's & Allarton Corporation "falling out" led to an abandoned project that got filled with rumors, half-truths, and outright lies that became what was published in the original 1981 publication (the deviations from DonM's version and the PP version could be noted from an in-universe perspective on the subpage as fanciful tall tales and old rumors).
