Scion Warrior model Hovercraft (TECH LEVEL 8)[edit]
The planet of Kaashik (world) maintains an old reserve unit called the Scion Light Brigade. Their battalions deploy these Hovercraft in infantry support mortar platoons of two firing vehicles and two service vehicles with extra ammunition. They are packed with sensors for locating enemy artillery batteries. They rely of communication with higher echelons for fire direction services at the battery level. This model is based on the same turret and chassis as the Scion Sentry model Hovercraft. These air cushion vehicles, rely on ground effects from vectored thrust to move at NOE but pay double movement for broken ground, on gentle slopes and sparse undergrowth. They may not climb steep slope gradients, enter boulder fields nor dense undergrowth. Their current weapon load and heavy ammunition stores preclude amphibious operations. Unloaded they are light enough to float. They have radically sloped frontal armor on the chassis and turret and are lightly armored to resist small arms fire and shell fragments. They are sealed and equipped with overpressure to resist NBC/CBR threats. They can't maneuver in the absence of an atmosphere. They carry three crew, a driver/mechanic, gunner and commander. They require wide-open spaces to fully exploit their top speed, obstacle and collision avoidance is largely a matter of luck or faith. The theory was that their speed would allow them to avoid danger and therefore they didn't need to carry as much armor. One mechanic/technician with the appropriate tools and access to a workshop can maintain this vehicle.
Vehicle Dimensions:[edit]
- Height: 2m (+1m turret). Width: 6.7 m. Length: 10 m.
- Total usable volume: 112 m3
- Total mass loaded: 119.33705 metric tons. They can't float while fully loaded.
- Production Cost: Cr. 1,804,311.494 (most of this is due to the very expensive ammunition included)
- Movement: 102.9kph/85cm.
- Movement effect on fire: move >1/2 -4 EFP
Armor:[edit]
- Chassis and Turret front 20, turret and chassis sides 11, turret and chassis rear, belly and deck 5 Composite Laminate.
- Target Size DMs: +3 low and +1 high hits.
Equipment:[edit]
- Basic ECM
- 10 km Laser Communicator
- 20 power counter battery RADAR
- Sound ranging gear (-2 10+ 10km)
- Flash ranging equipment (-1 +2 8+)
- RADAR direction finder +5
- Radio direction finder +4
- 5,000 Power Radio
- Sealed environment with overpressure versus NBC/CBR threats;
- Thermal and Image Enhancement for night operations;
- Laser sensor 8+
- 100 bottles of anti-laser aerosol
Power:[edit]
- a standard 9.9-megawatt MHD turbine power plant consumes 2,970 liters of fuel/ hour
- Fuel capacity 50,526 liters, enough for 17 hours.
- Power to weight ratio is 82.
Weapons:[edit]
There is radically front sloped 4.8m3 turret (1m tall, 2m wide, 3m long) on the chassis deck. There are a pair of independently targetable remote mounts, one for the right flank and the other covers the left flank of the vehicle.
They each mount a photon cannons in the local parlance equal to a TL–8 laser carbines in performance. Each has its own stabilized remote mount for anti-personnel and target designation work. They can each engage a single target/fire phase and have their own 50-shot batteries. The direct fire characteristics are:
| Effective Range | Long Range | Extreme Range |
| 150m (7) | 300m (3) | 1.5 km (1) |
Warrior 13cm Mass Driven RAM Mortar System[edit]
In the turret on the chassis deck a versatile 13cm mass driven mortar is fitted with TL–8 indirect fire control. The system requires 0.506-Megawatt input from the power plant. It requires a single gunner to operate.
- The vehicle requires 5.5 turns to set up for indirect fire missions. The vehicle can't move while engaged in indirect fire missions. It must communicate with an allied fire direction center in the higher echelons to conduct fire missions. The vehicle has a ROF 33 and rounds mass 46kg w/RAP. It carries enough ammo for 20 fire missions. The weapon fires 1.1 rounds per second and 33 rounds per fire mission.
- It has +0 signature when it fires, the shells are magnetically accelerated to clear the vehicle and only then does the rocket motor ignite to extend the indirect fire range.
- Onboard ammunition storage: 660 rounds of 46kg rocket assist munition. Non-RAP 23kg rounds are not typically employed. According to SOP a full load of RAP ammunition is included in the purchase price. The Acid Clouds will severely punish any troops caught without protective gear suitable for chemical warfare. The Gun Spire rounds parachute deploy a scattered pattern of 33 individual sentry laser carbines which can be remotely controlled. The vehicle is not typically equipped with one of these remotes, (1kg Cr1,000) usually they go to infantry officers and forward observers. The gun spires are fitted to receive and obey radio commands and have proximity sensors which trigger them. They can be used to target designate and to eliminate enemy infantry who lack the appropriate IFF. The cluster bomb munitions are great for saturating large areas. The anti-tank mine field fire mission scatters 759 individual 1kg mines. The much more expensive anti-personnel mine field fire mission scatters a total of 3,795 individual 0.2kg mines which can be remotely command detonated by radio or proximity triggered by wandering enemy infantry. The HEAP rounds are laser guided to assist tank hunting and the HE rounds have variable ballistics to decrease shells lost versus point defense fire by half.
| Range | Accuracy |
| 4.25km (6.375km RAP) | (-1) |
| 8.5km (12.75km RAP) | (-5) |
