Finding Work[edit]

  • The Malárteagh Treágtacht - The massive Caledonian equities exchange runs a network of its own courier vessels along the major trade routes - but they frequently engage hired vessels to send or retrieve key business information from smaller systems, and especially systems outside the Principality.
  • The Caledonian Special Service frequently hires a wide variety of help:
    • Privateers: The CSS often hires small warships, scouts and armed merchants to prey on the merchant fleets of undeclared enemies.
    • Mercenaries: The CSS frequently hires small groups of mercenaries for special missions, especially in Yedidah, and to wage low-intensity proxy conflicts (and guard against other incursions) on worlds bordering the Khan World League, the Grand Duchy of Marlheim, and against various breakway groups on the edges of the Imperium on the mining worlds to Coreward.
    • Referee's Note: All approaches to player characters will be through a "cutout", a third party who will show no obvious connections to the CSS. This party will be a businessperson, an academic, a "mercenary" or some other person with a plausible reason to hire the player characters, but whose connection to the CSS will require some sort of effort on the player characters' part to discover.
  • The Royal University of Caledon frequently hires contractors and mercenaries:
    • Guards (ground and space)
    • Vessels to serve as "research ships"
    • Couriers for highly-sensitive cargo - archaeological findings, research results, etc.
  • The Royal Caledonian Expeditionary Service often hires out...:
    • Expertise in many specific areas
    • Former scouts (Caledonian and Imperial) with local knowledge
  • Younger members of Caledonian noble families, especially families whose focus is on mercantile trade, will frequently start their trading careers by chartering a vessel and buying a cargo, and attempting to sell it for, ideally, a huge profit. It doesn't always work, and they don't always have the best judgment about the situations they get into.

Finding Help[edit]

Player characters seeking specialized help in the Principality can seek help from the following sources:

Getting Cargos[edit]

Some sample cargoes that are, if not "unique", at least commonly found in the Principality:

  • Liquor (and to a lesser extent beer), especially brands distilled on Dunbarton, Stirling, Douglass and Caledon. The profit potential, especially trading with wealthier customers in the Imperium, is high.
