Rak'keer!
The capital city of the Two Thousand Worlds, located on the site of the first recorded K'kree settlement on Kirur.
Rak'keer! is a word meaning "Eternal Vigilance" or "Everlasting Hour" in the K'kree Language. The city sprawls at the southwestern margin of the Xtengir Uplands. It is 80 miles across, and rises in a series of gentle tiers from the plateau. To its seaward side, it descends to the water in a bulge of curved steps. Aquaculture and land-based paddy fields surround the city, and sewage from its six million inhabitants is spread into open cast workings by servants, robots, and impertinent foreigners sentenced to the work. The city stands on an artificial mound, the leavings from long-depleted mines.
The central site of the original settlement is covered with an elegant dome. The result is an enclosed park, called the Holy Destiny Gardens. The governmental district and palace complex are at the city's centre, with a major road running straight from there to the starport 100 miles away. Subject aliens with reason to be on Kirur must remain in a ghetto with its own railway line to the starport and the capital. It is, symbolically, downwind.
