Palosil is a poor, nonindustrial world.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- This world has few prospects for economic development.
- It is a member of the Bright Conclave in the Alasim Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- It is a part of the Bright Peninsula.

System Data[edit]
Barin-Palosil System[edit]
The primary is Barin, a dim red subdwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.00103 Sols, a mass of 0.081 Sols, and a diameter of 109,000 km. (I) Ombadil, a large gas giant: (Ib) Palosil is its second moon and is designated the mainworld, (II) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (III-I) a sparse stony planetoid belt, (III-II) a ringed large gas giant, (IV) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (V-I) a trace atmosphere iceworld, and (V-II) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Lorito Subsystem[edit]
The companion is Lorito, a magenta-coloured L-type brown dwarf lying approximately 755 AU from Barin. It is not luminous, it has a mass of 0.061 Sols and a diameter of 60,000 km. (I) a sparse icy planetoid belt, and (II) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. None of the worlds retain satellites.
(I) Ombadil[edit]
(I) Ombadil is a large gas giant that orbits Barin at a mean distance of 0.15 AU (22.4 million km), within the outer system, and has an orbital period of 74 days 13 hours. It has a diameter of 71,000 km and an atmosphere consisting of 92% hydrogen (H2), 8% helium (He), and less than 1% methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH3), water vapor (H2O) and other trace gases. It is a pale blue color with bands of white storm clouds. It retains a family of three major satellites.
Satellites[edit]
Ombadil retains three major satellites:
- (Ia) Gero (UWP Y3A0000-0, orbiting at 5 Diameters/355,000 km)
- (Ib) Palosil (designated the mainworld, orbiting at 8 Diameters/570,000 km)
- (Ic) Murad (UWP Y100000-0, orbiting at 12 Diameters/850,000 km)
Mainworld Data[edit]
(Ib) Palosil[edit]
(Ib) Palosil is the second of the three major moons of (I) Ombadil and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 8 diameters (570,000 km), with an orbital period of 45 days 5 hours: it is tidally locked to Ombadil. The axial tilt is 6 degrees relative to Ombadil. Palosil has a diameter of 8,243 km, a density of 5.99 g/cm³ and a surface gravity of 0.70 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Ombadil cause frequent geological activity. The atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, with a mean surface pressure of 0.33 bar and a composition of 80% nitrogen (N2), 18% abiotic oxygen (O2), 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Around 17% of the surface is covered in sheets of water-ice and lakes of water kept liquid by geothermal activity. Mean surface temperature: -62°C. The climate is rated as Very Cold and is static, with no seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is slow and minor weather systems driven by the star drift across the globe.
Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]
Total surface area: 213 million km², Land surface area: 177 million km², Ice surface area: 36 million km².
- Oxygen contained deep within the world's interior is released by outgassing and serves to renew the atmosphere: it continuously reacts with surface materials and other atmospheric gases, gradually reducing the percentage of oxygen in the air.
Native lifeforms[edit]
Barin-Palosil System[edit]
No world in the system is known to have native life.
Lorito Subsystem[edit]
No body in the subsystem is known to have native life.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
No information yet available.
World starport[edit]
Palosil has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level[edit]
Palosil possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World government[edit]
Palosil is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
