Orion Rift

The Orion Rift is an area of lower stellar density immediately to rimward of the Orion OB1 Association.

• This region is sometimes called The Spinner by the Solomani, and the small region of higher stellar density that is located within the rift region is sometimes referred to as "The Eye".

Description (Specifications)

The "Spinner", with its distinctive shape, is visible rimward of Charted Space. The Third Imperium is in red; the Hive Federation in lilac; the Two Thousand Worlds in green; the Solomani Confederation in orange; and the Aslan Hierate in yellow. The Distant Fringe is also shown.

The Orion Rift is a region of approximately one-fifth the average stellar density of the Sol region. It lies to rimward of the Orion OB1 Association.

• It is an astrographic feature.

History & Background (Dossier)

No detailed exploratory missions have yet entered the Rift, but reaching it has become a goal of the Solomani Confederation, with a public awareness of the achievement that reaching it represents and a general desire to "get there before the Hivers do" as a matter of national and racial pride.
