The Regency, or Regency of Deneb was the government formed by Archduke Norris of the Third Imperium in 1132 after the Virus caused the Collapse, and placed Archduke Norris Aella Aledon in the chief executive leadership position of First Regent of this new polity.

Regency of Deneb & New Imperium

With the Imperium now all but dead but in name, Norris had to act quickly to establish a new government. After securing the cooperation of the Zhodani Consulate and other Spinward states behind the Great Rift against the spread of Virus, the Archduke established himself as The Regent of the Regency of Deneb in IY 1132.

By taking such decisive action, Norris established in fact what Strephon had hinted at in the Arrival Vengeance mission: the new state was the legal heir to the Imperium. In spite of the darkness of war, the people had stayed steadfast to the principles of the Imperium.

Norris himself took these alleged principles and the bravery and example of his people to wend together the icon of the "Flame". According to him, the Flame was the beacon of timeless and transcendental values that would guide them through the night of Virus and back into the light of the promised land of a new Imperium.

These are some of the more important historical events that have affected this polity:

• 1132: Regency proclaimed, Spinward States Accord signed. Sword Worlds attempt land-grab.
• 1133: Regency Frontier created. Abandonment begins. Border Worlds and Gram absorbed into Regency. Norris declares the Psionic Reforms under High Regent Dilgaadin. Psionic Renaissance begins.
• 1139: Rape of Trin
• 1140: Regency annexes Old Islands and New Islands subsectors and assumes peacekeeping responsibilities.
• 1152: Beginning of the Representational Reforms.
• 1157: Norris dies; his true-daughter Seldrian succeeds him as Regent.
