Querion, subsector E of Spinward Marches, contains 21 worlds with an estimated combined population of 19 billion. The population consists primarily of 6 sophont groups including two native sophonts; the Tashaki of Retinae and the Sheol of Querion. The governments in Querion maintain three Military bases and two Naval bases. The average technology level is 7 (with most between 5 and 10). The highest technology level is 12 at Lebeau (Spinward Marches 0613) and Thanber (Spinward Marches 0717). Querion, contains 33 stars and 205 identified planets; nine monostellar systems and 12 binary systems. 13 of the 21 systems (61%) have native gas giants.[1]

Querion lies entirely outside of the Imperium. Most of the subsector is claimed by the Zhodani Consulate as an area of interest, although if expansion into the area was desired it would have been carried out long ago. Much of this territory was gained at the end of the Third Frontier War.[2]

Six worlds in the subsector are formally part of the Consulate and linked to it via a narrow strip of territory running coreward through the Cronor subsector. The Zhodani naval bases at Rapp’s World and Querion represent the most rimward Zhodani possessions in the Marches.[2]

The remainder of the subsector is mostly neutral, although the Entropic Worlds (Winston, Entrope and Anselhome) are claimed by both the Sword Worlds and Darrian Confederation. They are, at present, held by the Sword Worlds, having been conquered in the Fourth Frontier War.[2]

The Zhodani subsector capital is Querion, which contains a large Consular Guard Naval Base. The neutral worlds were mostly settled by members of the Third Imperium, but were left as independent worlds as Imperial boundaries were pushed back by the first three Frontier Wars.[3]

The subsector is now seen by many as a powder keg. Zhodani, Darrian, Arden and Imperial powers attempt to increase their own power base in this, the last frontier of the Spinward Marches.[3]

The subsector is sparse in terms of stellar density and contains mostly mid-tech worlds of little economic or political importance. One exception is Bael, rumoured to be the site of large deposits of lanthanum, which is vital to the manufacture of jump drives. This has attracted commercial interest and a certain amount of competition among freelance prospectors. The world’s remote location, requiring jump-3 ships for access, is a barrier to exploitation. [4]

Several races apart from humans are found in Querion, including Vargr on Rushu, Droyne on Sansibar and Tashaki on Retinae.[3]
