History & Background (Dossier)

The naval base was established here a very long time ago. The Conquest of Kalaalit took place during a Vilani War of Liberation -1523 to -1519. This had been an enemy stronghold in the subsector. A lengthy siege and naval blockade was deployed. The situation was tense, with many foreign and alien mercenaries hired to defend the starport and shipyards. They were under orders to kill the loyal nobles, if the planet was attacked. Then they would nuke the starport, and the city, retreat and regroup at the nearest friendly port.

When this order became known on the planet, the inhabitants quickly made contact with the commanders of the besieging forces, Admiral Arvid Västgöte and Field Marshal Peder Hansson. An agreement was made, that the nobles would leave the northern city that night. This was done, and the attack began. Before dawn, the city was in Vlani hands. Eight days later the underground command and control bunkers, barracks and orbital fortresses surrendered as well, and Admiral Arvid Västgöte continued on to cleanse the area of enemy mercenary troops.

As a result a strong central government and military presence was established. The nobles instituted high law levels which persist into the imperial era. The nobles have come and gone, their empires as well, but the strict security forces seem inevitable.

Imperial Landed Nobility

Kalaalit, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial Landed Knight who acts as an Imperial representative to the world, and the fiefdoms of two members of the Imperial Landed Nobility, who oversee affairs regarding the world at an Interstellar and Imperial level.

World Starport (Sp)

Kalaalit has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
