Kach'k is a nonindustrial, pre-rich water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It still lacks adequate population to expand its economy to a rich status.
- Its economy is growing and living conditions are expected to rise in the near future barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Sath Alliance in the Sath Subsector of Far Home Sector.
- This world is a colony of Ch'kaahi
- Warning: humans are not welcome within the Sath Alliance. Those few humans that venture into its territory are generally met with a hostile reception and are closely monitored at all times.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- It is part of the K'shek Cluster.
System Data[edit]
Sch'ka-Kach'k System[edit]
The primary is Sch'ka, an ordinary white main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 5.34 Sols, a mass of 1.46 Sols, and a diameter of 2.115 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (III) an exotic atmosphere stormworld, (IV) a dense stony planetoid belt, and (V) Kach'k, designated the mainworld. (VI) a thin atmosphere hospitable world orbits within the habitable zone. (VII) a thin atmosphere hospitable world, (VIII) a vacuum iceworld, (IX) a sparse rocky planetoid belt, (X) a ringed large gas giant, (XI) a small gas giant, and (XII) a sparse icy planetoid belt form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(V) Kach'k[edit]
(V) Kach'k is designated the mainworld. It orbits Sch'ka at a mean distance of 1.53 AU (228.9 million km), within the H– region of the inner system. It has an orbital period of 1 year 207 days and a rotation period of 49 hours. The axial tilt is 23 degrees. Kach'k has a diameter of 14,112 km, a density of 5.13 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 1.03 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Dense, with a mean surface pressure of 2.21 bar and a composition of 79% nitrogen (N2), 20% oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), ozone (O3), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 99.9% of the surface is covered in an ocean of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 1.1m. Mean surface temperature: 11°C. The climate is rated Temperate-Cool and experiences moderate seasonal changes during the local year. The atmosphere is extremely active and violent weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe.
Mainworld geography and topography[edit]
Total surface area: 626 million km², Water surface area: 625.4 million km², Land surface area: 600,000 km². The Kas'shaa Sea, a storm-wracked world ocean, encircles the globe. It has a mean depth of approximately 5,500m. Around 17% of the sea floor is substantially more elevated, with a mean depth of approximately 400m. Pack ice accumulates within the polar regions and large icebergs are common far into the mid-latitudes. The only major land is the Ith archipelago, a long chain of small vertical-sided islands that straddle the equator. They are formed from long-extinct volcanoes: the extremely hard cylindrical cores of those ancient peaks are all that remain after countless millennia of being worn away by the action of the waves. The islands are riddled with lava tubes.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Kach'k, the mainworld has extensive, abundant native life, with organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal. The Kas'shaa Sea is filled with an abundance of aquatic lifeforms, some of which grow to very large sizes. The islands of the Ith archipelago are home to a huge number of introduced offworld flora and fauna, including flyers, which have established an interdependent ecosystem that has been flourishing for millennia. They are tolerant of the powerful storms that regularly sweep across the islands, finding shelter within the catacombs of lava tunnels.
The temperate hospitable world lying in orbital position (IV) (within the habitable zone) has extensive, abundant native life, with complex organisms inhabiting every ecological niche. Their metabolic functions drive the process of atmospheric renewal.
The cold marginally hospitable world lying in orbital position (V) (within the H+ region of the outer system) has primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of shelter and warmth. Their metabolic functions maintain the process of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
This system is controlled by the Shikh'aa Faction of the Sath Alliance.
World starport[edit]
Kach'k has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level[edit]
Kach'k possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World government[edit]
Kach'k has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
World military[edit]
Small attack hydrofoils defend vital oil rigs. Each is equipped with a pair of massive tube launchers for surface to surface or surface to air missiles. Teams of helium rig patrol blimps cruise overhead to provide reconnaissance, anti submarine and command and control features. The gas turbine powered hydrofoils are fast but lack range and must regroup with submarine based refueling tankers which use a drogue and fuel probe to tend surface craft while remaining safely below the waves. Large mother ships fitted with boat wells which they can flood to dispatch two 200kph troop carriers and four smaller attack hydrofoils. Individual 40kph jet skis are used to repel would be boarders, should unwelcome guests arrive.
